2010 - Peru Inca Trail
In order to raise funds and awareness for two chosen charities, a group of friends from Cambridge have decided to embark on a trek challenge (Peru Inca Trail) leaving on 28th September 2010.
The chosen charities are UK based RP - Fighting Blindness and South America based Friends Of Alalay (Santa Cruz)
Those taking part in the 10 months worth of fundraising and the final challenge are:
Aimee Chivers, Yvette Chivers, James Beeson, Ricky Webb and Michelle Marchant with a fundraising target of at least £16,000
As many people are aware, there are costs attached to a trek challenge, but the group have set out to raise the funds needed for the actual trek through self planned events (which will also drive awareness to the charities themselves) leaving any personal and corporate sponsorship as well as collections to be directed straight to the charities. Whilst in South Amercia the team have planned to visit the charity Alalay and help with the project. The group are encouraging anyone wishing to help raise funds and awareness to get in touch, and organise their own events, from simple raffles right through to fully organised music events. Any companies/promoters willing to donate a percentage of a day/event will be given as much publicity in return as possible. The challenge will also be highly featured in local media throughout the year, and supporters will be featured in the gallery below.
